The Alabama Crimson Tide (18-10) picked a great time to win the first SEC series of the season, taking down the sixth-ranked Kentucky Wildcats (18-9) in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama won the first two games of the weekend series, each by a score of 4-2, before dropping Sunday’s series finale. The most pivotal point of the matchup (and perhaps the season so far for Alabama) came in the second game, when first baseman Hunter Alexander launched a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to put the Crimson Tide up 4-1 to secure the series.

The Crimson Tide will look to keep the momentum going when the Jacksonville State Gamecocks come to Tuscaloosa for a one-game contest on Tuesday. The Gamecocks (15-9) are currently sitting in third place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, sporting a 6-3 record in conference play. Worth noting is that JSU and Alabama share one common opponent on the year: the UAB Blazers. The Blazers beat the Crimson Tide in Birmingham earlier this season, while the Gamecocks managed to come out victorious by a score of 4-2.

With the two wins over Kentucky, Alabama is now 3-5 in SEC play, which is only three games back of the division leading Ole Miss Rebels. A victory over Jacksonville State will go a long way towards keeping the Crimson Tide’s confidence high going into another SEC matchup against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia this weekend.

Alabama and Jacksonville State will face off again on May 8th in Jacksonville.

First pitch between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Jacksonville State Gamecocks is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Thomas-Sewell Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
