Alabama defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand was arrested early Saturday on a DUI charge and later released on $1,000 bond.

The arrest comes less than a week before the Crimson Tide begins fall practice, and the senior is expected to be a major contributor on defense this season. Despite having just 44 career tackles and seven career sacks as a reserve, Hand landed on the preseason All-SEC first team earlier this month.

Head coach Nick Saban, who has always handled disciplinary measures internally, will meet with reporters later this week and practice officially opens on Thursday.

Alabama begins the season with Florida State on September 2.
