The Alabama women’s basketball team dropped a 91-80 decision to Arkansas in triple overtime Sunday afternoon in Foster Auditorium. With the loss, the Crimson Tide falls to 12-12 overall and 2-9 in the Southeastern Conference while the win brings Arkansas to 16-8 on the season and 4-7 in the league.

“Both teams played hard in this game,” said Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson. “We did a lot of good things, but at the end of the day there were a couple of plays where Arkansas got the loose balls, especially in the last overtime. We’ve got to finish. We didn’t finish. That’s just the bottom line. We played hard, but we didn’t play smart.”

Sophomore Daisha Simmons led all scorers with 21 points in addition to nine rebounds, five assists and two steals. Also notching double-digit points for the Tide was redshirt sophomore Kaneisha Horn with 19, junior Jasmine Robinson with 14 and junior Shafontaye Myers with 11. Junior Dominique Wilkins finished as Arkansas’ leader in points with 19 while senior Quistelle Williams notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Tide opened the game on a 10-4 run and led by as many as eight in the first half, but the Razorbacks used a 7-2 run before heading into the locker room to cut the margin to three, 31-28, at the half.

Arkansas came out firing in the second, stringing together a 12-2 run over the first four minutes to take its first lead since the 18:15 mark of the opening half. Alabama responded with another 10-4 drive to pull within one and would eventually tie the game at 50 off a layup from Horn with 6:14 to go in regulation. With the Razorbacks on top 58-55, Myers drained a three-pointer with just over three seconds on the clock to force overtime.

In the first bonus period, neither team led by more than three, and in the same way regulation ended, Myers connected on another three-point shot with the Tide down by three, to force a second overtime.

Alabama opened the second OT with seven unanswered points, but Arkansas came back to score eight of the last nine points, including a three-pointer with 13 seconds to go from Wilson, forcing yet another overtime.

In the third, it was all Arkansas, as the Razorbacks outscored the Tide 15-4 over the final 5:00.

For the game, Alabama was 35.4 percent (28-79) from the floor while Arkansas hit 40.5 percent (32-79) of its attempts. The Tide out-rebounded the Razorbacks, 55-52, but committed 25 turnovers compared to Arkansas’ 23.
