Alabama junior tight end Hale Hentges has been named to the 2017 John Mackey Award Watch List announced today by the Friends of John Mackey.

Hentges is among 55 tight ends from around the country named to the preseason list. This is his first appearance on the Mackey Award Watch List.

A proficient blocker that provides veteran experience at tight end, Hentges has appeared in 29 games during his career, starting five of those contests. Used primarily as a blocker, the Jefferson City, Mo., native hauled in three catches for 10 yards while seeing action in all 15 contests during his sophomore campaign.

The Mackey Award has been presented annually since 2000 by the Friends of John Mackey to recognize the top tight end in college football. The award is named in honor of former NFL Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey. The 2017 winner will be announced at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December.
