Alabama Football’s Hale Hentges Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List
Alabama tight end Hale Hentges has been named to the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List announced today by the All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Hentges is among 106 candidates from around the country named to the preseason list. Former Crimson Tide offensive lineman Barrett Jones was UA’s first Wuerffel Trophy winner in 2011.
The Jefferson City, Mo., native has given his time to Habitat for Humanity and been active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes during his time in Tuscaloosa. On the field, Hentges has been a proficient blocker with good catching ability. He has played a key role in helping the Tide running game rank as one of the best in the nation during his career.
The Wuerffel Trophy has been presented annually since 2005 by the All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to recognize the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. The award is named in honor of former Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel. The 2018 winner will be announced at a National Football Foundation press conference in December.
