The Alabama men's golf team opened up the first round of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional by shooting eight over par as a team at The University Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Alabama, the region's top seed, was led by senior Scott Strohmeyer, who fired a two-under round. He birdied five of his first 11 holes but finished with bogies on three of the final six holes.

Cory Whitsett, the men's SEC Golfer of the Year, carded a quadruple bogey on the 15th hole en route to a 42 on the back nine, which was playing much tougher than the front side. Whitsett finished six-over for the day.

The Crimson Tide finds itself 10 strokes behind second-seeded Florida, which shot two-under as a team. South Alabama also found itself 10 strokes behind the Gators, tied with Alabama. Host LSU finished in a tie for 8th with a score of 15-over.
