On January 7th 2013, two of the most storied programs in college football will meet on the gridiron as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will collide for the BCS National Championship.

While each program has a trophy case stuffed full of accolades, it is that very acclaim that has led to Alabama and Notre Dame being recognized as two of the most hated programs in college football.  Alabama has laid claim to 14 national championships. Notre Dame lists 11 on their resume.

While the disdain for the two programs is evident, ESPN College Football Analyst Kirk Herbstreit feels like the Southeastern Conference’s recent reign of national championships may lead to the casual fan across the country pulling for the Irish.

Herbstreit goes on to add that this dislike for each of these teams may actually contribute to the interest in the game.
