Avery Johnson officially signed his first member of the 2017 recruiting class when Galin Smith inked his letter of intent on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-9 center held a ceremony at Clinton High School on the first day of the early signing period.

“I’m really excited about playing for Alabama,” Smith said. “I feel like I can fit into their system. They seem very genuine to me, like a bigger Clinton.”

The Mississippi native committed to Alabama in October after visiting Tuscaloosa the month before. As a junior, Smith averaged 21.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.1 blocks and 1.5 assists per game for the Arrows.

Smith is a three-star recruit and is part of a Crimson Tide class that currently ranks 24th in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
