Alabama softball dropped its weekend finale to Washington Saturday at Rhoads Stadium, as three solo home runs accounted for the entirety of the Huskies’ offensive output in the 3-0 shutout.

Alabama (37-11) out-hit Washington (34-10), 5-4, but the Crimson Tide left eight runners on base while three of the Huskies’ four hits were home runs. Sydney Booker went 2-3 batting eighth and Elissa Brown, Peyton Grantham and Chandler Dare tallied the team’s remaining three hits. Sydney Littlejohn (14-4) took the loss in the circle, throwing 5.0 innings while Taran Alvelo (21-6) earned the win with 5.2 shutout innings

Washington wasted no time getting on the board as leadoff hitter Ali Aguilar sent the first pitch of the game over the fence in center field, giving Washington the early 1-0 lead. Alabama left a runner on base in each of the first three innings and had a good scoring opportunity in the fourth, putting runners on second and third with one out. A lineout double play ended the threat however as it remained 1-0 Washington.

Julia DePonte doubled the Huskies’ lead in the top of the fifth with a solo home run. Later with two outs, lightning in the area forced a delay of just over 90 minutes. After resuming, Washington extended its lead to 3-0 in the top of the sixth with another solo home run, this time off the bat of Sis Bates.

Still trailing by three in the bottom of the seventh, Booker led off the half-inning with a single and pinch-hitter Marisa Runyon put a charge into the ball but it fell just short at the warning track for a loud out number one. A strikeout and a lineout ended the inning as Washington held on to win, 3-0.

Next up, Alabama travels to Birmingham, Ala., to face Samford on Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. CT before heading to Oxford, Miss., for a three-game series against Ole Miss starting on Saturday, April 29 at 2 p.m. CT.
