Alabama men’s basketball rising sophomore Kira Lewis Jr. was named one of 35 athletes from around the nation set to take part in the training camp for the 2019 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team. The camp will be held June 15-18 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The training camp will be used to determine the official, 12-member roster for the 2019 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team, which will be selected by the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Committee. Finalists for the team are expected to be announced on June 18, and the team will be named prior to its departure for the 2019 FIBA World Cup on June 24. This year’s event will be held June 29-July 7 in Greece.

Lewis is one of just seven collegiate sophomores participating in this year’s camp, which also features 14 soon-to-be collegiate freshmen and 13 members of the 2020 class.

Lewis earned a spot on the 2019 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team despite being the youngest active Division I men’s basketball player in the country. The Meridianville, Ala., native led the Tide on the offensive side of the ball, topping the team with 13.5 points, 2.9 assists and 31.6 minutes per contest. He also led UA in free throw percentage (90-of-115, .783), double-figure scoring games (24) and 20-point games (5) for the season.
