Alabama’s Kristen Gillman carded a 2-over par 74 in her final round at the U.S. Women’s Open on Sunday on Sunday afternoon. The Tide sophomore finished the weekend at +5 (70-74-75-74/293) to tie for 27th at the par-72, 6,689-yard Shoal Creek Club in Shoal Creek, Ala.

“This week was definitely a learning experience,” Gillman said following her final round. “I enjoyed playing with all the pros and getting to play with Emma Talley the first two days was great. It was nice to be able to compare my game against the pros and see that I’m not too far from where I need to be.”

The Austin, Texas, native finished as the No. 3 amateur at this year’s tournament and is the second Tide golfer to finish in the top 50 in the last two Opens. Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson finished 41st – and was the No. 4 amateur – at the 2017 U.S. Open in Bedminster, N.J.

Alabama alum Emma Talley was also in this year’ field and tied for 41st at +8 (74-71-74-77/296).

Gillman will be in action next weekend – along with Stephenson – as a member of the U.S. team that will face Great Britain & Ireland in the 2018 Curtis Cup, June 8-10, at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.
