Alabama freshman pitcher Montana Fouts has been named the SEC Softball Freshman of the Week, it was announced Monday.

The Grayson, Ky., native went 2-0 in the circle at the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., pitching a pair of complete-game victories against USF and ninth-ranked Arizona. She threw 14.0 innings with just one unearned run allowed on nine hits with 20 strikeouts and no walks. The win over Arizona marked the Crimson Tide’s first true road win over a top-10 non-conference opponent during the regular season since defeating then-No. 7 Texas in Austin on Feb. 19, 1999.

Fouts has yet to walk a batter through 27.0 innings pitched this season and is 4-0 with two runs allowed, one earned, and 33 strikeouts.

This is the second SEC weekly award in as many weeks for Alabama after sophomore Kaylee Tow was named SEC Player of the Week following opening weekend. This is the first weekly conference honor of Fouts’ career and is the 20th SEC Freshman of the Week award in program history, with Tow as the most-recent recipient on April 9, 2018.

Fouts and her teammates make their home debut this weekend at the Easton Bama Bash, playing five games over three days at Rhoads Stadium starting Friday, Feb. 22.
