Auburn's backfield took a hit on Monday when head coach Gus Malzahn announced that Kam Pettway suffered a shoulder injury and will miss time.

The junior running back fractured his scapula during the Arkansas game and the team discovered it during the bye week.

"Kam Pettway suffered a fracture in his scapula," Malzahn said. "We did not know that until last Friday."

Malzahn said Pettway would miss an "extended period" of time but there wasn't a specific timeline provided. That leaves Auburn with one primary running back, but he's a good one. Kerryon Johnson has emerged as one of the top backs in the league and actually leads SEC with 723 rushing yards.

Auburn will travel to Texas A&M to face the Aggies on Saturday before a home game with No. 2 Georgia on November 11.
