On Wednesday, It was announced that former Alabama linebacker Derrick Thomas would headline the 2014 College Football Hall of Fame class posthumously.

Bill Curry, who coached Thomas at Alabama, joined The Game to share his thoughts on Derrick Thomas. Coach Curry has had the honor of coaching some of the best names in college football, yet it was not difficult for him to share who the best player he ever coached was.

"(Derrick Thomas) just did super human things and he did them all the time," Curry told host Ryan Fowler. "Just an incredible player. . . . Derrick is the best player I ever had the privilege of coaching. He changed the game in one play and he could take over a game."

Creating an offensive game plan to slow down Thomas was virtually impossible for those who faced Alabama. Coach Curry and his coaching staff continuously changed defensive schemes to allow Thomas to wreak havoc on the opposing team.

"We had a terrific defensive coordinator in Don Lindsey and he would scheme a game plan. Derrick would make 25 tackles, and we beat Penn State 8-3. That actually happened."

Thomas was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame after four consecutive years of being on the ballot. Coach Curry did offer insight to those who felt that it took much too long to recognize Thomas as one of the greatest college football players ever.

"Well you have to understand that everyone has their own perspective. Not everyone got to coach Derrick. Not everyone got to watch him practice everyday and play the way he did. So yes, I felt like he got shortchanged for several years there, but sooner or later people study the film and realize that players like him have to get in."
