Throughout much of the 2018 season, Alabama football rolled through the schedule thanks to a high-powered offense along with the arm of Tua Tagovailoa.

Despite the success, placekicking and punting struggled mightily throughout the year.

Both positions saw backups replace first game starters as Joseph Bulovas replaced Austin Jones at placekicker while Mike Bernier took over punting duties from true freshman Skyler DeLong about halfway into the season.

Overall, Alabama's placekickers connected on 15 of 20 field goals but misfired on nine extra point attempts while Bernier and DeLong combined for just 35.8 net yards per punt.

During Tuesday's "Capstone Report with DC" segments of The Blitz, former Alabama fullback Martin Houston and DC from Golden Shores Productions provided a big picture look at the status of the Crimson Tide's kicking game.

"I think the kicking game is probably the weakest it's been since I can remember, since (Nick) Saban has been here. That's kicking and punting." DC said.

While Bulovas, Bernier and DeLong will return to the roster for 2019, DC highlighted how Hoover High School's Will Reichard could play a big role on special teams for the upcoming season.

"I think the kicker that's coming in has a chance to really change the course of the placekicking duties at the University of Alabama." DC said.

Martin Houston and DC also detail the drop off from the punter position following J.K. Scott's departure and how Skyler DeLong could get a second chance for the starting punting spot.

The Blitz kicks off live and local coverage of Alabama sports every weekday from 6-7 AM on Tide 102.9/100.9 and the Tide 102.9 app.
