Chance Warmack on Alabama’s 2013 Team: “The Sky is the Limit”

The Alabama Crimson Tide football team has established themselves as the nation’s elite program, winning three national championships in the past four seasons.

However, things didn’t always go as planned.

In 2009, it took a narrow escape on the third Saturday of October and a mountain of a man to defeat the Tennessee Volunteers, in what Lane Kiffin probably still considers a highlight of his career.

In 2010, Alabama featured one of its most talented teams to ever step foot on the Capstone. However, an early loss to South Carolina derailed the Tide’s winning streak and a shot at the national championship and the conference crown was ended with a 3 point loss in Baton Rouge, then came the Iron Bowl, when Alabama squandered a big halftime lead.

In 2011, Alabama had to overcome a November loss to LSU and relied on a little BCS magic to take them to the title game.

In 2012, the story was much of the same after a loss to Texas A&M, but when the BCS compiled their final calculations, the final numbers the numbers were a little more friendly after a dramatic SEC Title game.

In the success and failures of the Crimson Tide, leadership has always been the underlying issue. Now as the 2013 season is fast approaching, does this year’s Alabama team have what it takes?

"I feel like this team has more leadership than we even had in our previous years. They've seen the ups and downs” former Alabama Guard and current Tennessee Titan Chance Warmack said on 99.1 WDGM’s The Game.

“I think they've seen just about everything you can have in a season-they won't have anything new to deal with.”

Warmack makes an interesting point. Alabama has players on this roster, leaders like AJ McCarron and CJ Mosley who have seen the rise and the fall of the Alabama program.

As strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran says “get your mind right!”

We have seen in year’s past, if Alabama does have their “mind right” they are one of the toughest teams in the country. But yesterday’s accomplishments wont mean much when the season starts, nor will the preseason predictions and award projections.

So can this team do the impossible? Can Alabama really win three consecutive championships?

“Obviously I am going to say yes because I want the team after to do better. It takes a lot of hard work and unity, but the sky is the limit for this team. This team was a part of the 2012 national championship so they can only get better from here” Warmack added.

“So why not? The sky is the limit.”
