Less than a month after Ryan Grubb took the position of offensive coordinator for the University of Alabama, Grubb accepted the same position with the Seattle Seahawks and took Scott Huff as the offensive line coach. This left a huge hole in the initial coaching staff of Kalen DeBoer and Alabama.

DeBoer countered the move by promoting tight end coach Nick Sheridan to Co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, while JaMarcus Shephard got the title of Co-offensive coordinator in addition to being the wide receiver's coach.

Sheridan being promoted and Huff departing for Seattle left two more holes on Alabama's coaching staff: offensive line and tight end coach. One of those positions is expected to be filled by a now-former group of five coordinator.

According to sources, Alabama is expected to hire Bryan Ellis as the tight-end coach. Ellis is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgia Southern.

Ellis played quarterback at UAB from 2007 to 2011, he then was a graduate assistant for the Blazers from 2012 and 2013. After UAB, he spent three seasons at Western Kentucky where he served as an offensive quality control coach in 2014, running back coach in 2015, and passing game coordinator and wide receiver coach in 2016. He then spent two seasons at USC as an offensive analyst in 2017 and the quarterback coach in 2018.

Ellis returned to Western Kentucky in 2019 where he served as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for two seasons. In 2021, his role was shifted to co-offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach. Ellis was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for two seasons at Georgia Southern.
