Derrick Thomas was one of the greatest linebackers to play at the University of Alabama, and one of the greatest of all time from any university. His son, Derrion, sat down with Ryan Fowler on "The Game" to talk about his father's legacy and the pride his family continues to have for the legendary linebacker.

Brett McMurphy broke the story yesterday that Derrick Thomas was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Four long, agonizing, and seemingly tantalizing years passed with Derrick Thomas on the ballot, yet he was never voted into the prestigious Hall. Without an official announcement, Alabama fans, and college football fans in general, were leery of this breaking news; a well deserved player of Thomas's caliber has been left out of the Hall of Fame for four years. It is only natural to doubt this report, given the recent history, so the fans anxiously waited the next 24 hours for the official announcement.

On a personal note, I have been in disagreement with Thomas not being voted in since he first appeared on a Hall of Fame ballot. However, I can't imagine how his family has felt about this unfortunate situation. Nothing can compare to losing a loved one; all lives that are seemingly cut short are tragedies, and his passing on February 8, 2000 was no different.

Derrion spoke about the perception of why his father was possibly not voted in until this year:

"There's sometimes a misconception about his private life. It not a secret that he had multiple kids... and I think that gets in the way of people's judgment. But when you look at his stats and his life off the football field apart from some of the mistakes he made, you really understand why years ago this should have happened."

Derrion played his collegiate football at the University of Missouri, but because of his father's legacy around Tuscaloosa, Derrion's still a huge Crimson Tide fan. He tells an anecdote about sitting in one of his Assistant Coach's office and he needed to use Derrion's computer. However, he needed a password to login, and what was Derrion's password on his computer?

"He was like, 'What's your password?' And I was like, 'Ahem.... Roll Tide 55.'"
