The University of Alabama announced Monday that sophomore forward Devonta Pollard is no longer enrolled in school. The news comes three weeks after Pollard was arrested in connection with a kidnapping in Mississippi.

The loss of Pollard leaves the Crimson Tide with 11 scholarship players (two empty scholarships) and two of those are ineligible to play in 2013-14 due to NCAA transfer rules. Alabama fans can choose to look at this news in one of two ways as it concerns the future of head coach Anthony Grant.

First, this off-court issue was completely out of his control. There's no way any coach can be expected to intervene or even be aware of every domestic issue that arises. Devonta Pollard leaving school creates depth issues once again, and that should give Grant another year to get a full roster in place before any decisions are made.

On the other hand, you can say that Grant shouldn't have two unused scholarships in the first place. While the loss of Pollard can't fall directly on Grant, it serves to further highlight the roster issues Alabama has dealt with the last few years.
