Former Alabama DL Ishmael Sopsher Transferring to JUCO

Ishmael Sopsher, a former 4-star recruit, and part of the 2019 Alabama recruiting class have decided to transfer to Southwest Mississippi Community College.

Sopsher was recruited out of Amite High School in Louisiana as the state's No. 3 overall recruit. With offers from the likes of Oregon, LSU, and Michigan just to name a few, Sopsher instead chose to join the Crimson Tide.

During his time in Tuscaloosa, Sopsher spent the majority of the 2019 and 2020 seasons on the sidelines. Sopsher only appeared in 1 game as a freshman before he was later redshirted.

Following his second season at Alabama, Sopsher decided to enter the transfer portal where he eventually ended up at USC. Hoping to make an instant impact on the field, Sopsher struggled to get any playing time. He only played eight snaps for the Trojans before it was announced that he would undergo surgery for double compartmental leg syndrome.

Soon after the 2021 season came to a close, Sopsher entered the transfer portal once more.

As he prepares to spend the season in Summit, Mississippi, this will now be Sopher’s third school in just four years. We’ve seen players go through the JUCO process before to increase their playing time and show off what they can still do to other coaches around the country.
