Former Alabama Forward Braxton Key Transfers to Virginia
Former Alabama forward Braxton Key is leaving the Southeastern Conference for the ACC.
The two-year starter for the Crimson Tide told ESPN that he plans to join the Virginia Cavaliers next season.
Key was recruited out of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia when he decided to play for Avery Johnson and the Crimson Tide two years ago. He made an immediate impact at Alabama, starting 30 games and earning 2017 SEC All-Freshman honors.
He weighed the option of entering the NBA Draft before returning to Tuscaloosa for the 2017-18 season. Key dealt with injuries for much of his sophomore campaign and never could regain the form he showed during his first year.
After sitting out a season, he'll join a Cavs team that rolled up 31 regular season wins before making history by becoming the first 1-seed to lose to a 16-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
