Former Alabama Quarterback Headed to ACC
A familiar face is headed to the ACC.
Former Alabama quarterback Freddie Kitchens is headed to Chapel Hill, N.C., to become the tight ends coach at North Carolina, according to national senior college football reporter for On3Sports Matt Zenitz.
The Ala., native has coached in both college football and NFL, working entirely on the offensive side of the ball. His most notable position was as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns 2019 and most recently served as a senior football analyst for South Carolina last season.
Other stops Kitchens has made in his coaching career include Glenville State (1999), LSU (2000), North Texas (2001-03), Mississippi State (2004-05), Dallas Cowboys (2006), Arizona Cardinals (2007-17), and the New York Giants (2020-21).
Kitchens played four seasons with the Crimson Tide (1993-97). During his Tide tenure, he went 343-of-680 for 4,668 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions.
The 48-year old will join a Tar Heels program that went 9-5 overall, 6-2 in conference play, and made appearances in both the 2022 ACC Championship and 2022 San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl.
