Former Alabama RB Retires from Football

A former Crimson Tide ball carrier has called it a career after winning back-to-back championships with the USFL's Birmingham Stallions.

The Stallions moved to the newly formed UFL, but their primary ball carrier won't be joining them. Bo, Scarbrough has retired from football, according to the UFL.

Scarbrough was the Crimson Tide's lead back as a sophomore in 2016, to the tune of an 812-yard, 11-touchdown breakout season that ended with him leading the Crimson Tide to a Peach Bowl win over the Washington Huskies. Scarbrough broke his leg in the national championship against the Clemson Tigers.

In 2017, he took a bit of a backseat role to Damien Harris and Josh Jacobs. Scarbrough had 596 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

After playing three seasons at Alabama, Scarbrough was a seventh-round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2018 NFL draft, but never played a snap for them. He saw time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, and Las Vegas Raiders before joining the Stallions in the USFL.

It was there that Scarbrough saw his professional football career begin to take off. He was the starting back for the Stallions and recorded 352 yards and one touchdown in six games. He was a member of the team in 2023 but was limited in his playing time due to injuries. He won two championships with the Stallions.

In a statement from the UFL's official press release, Scarbrough said, "You can love this game all you want, but at the end of the day, the game can’t love you back because it’s not a person; it’s a ball. I have so much respect for the people still playing."
