Freshman quarterback Jacob Eason will receive his first start when No. 9 Georgia plays Nicholls on Saturday.

Georgia announced the decision by coach Kirby Smart on Friday.

Eason played behind Greyson Lambert, the Virginia transfer who was the primary starter in 2015, in last week's win over North Carolina. Eason completed 8 of 12 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown. Lambert completed 5 of 8 passes for 54 yards.

Eason was regarded by some as the nation's top high school quarterback in this year's recruiting class. His rise to the starting job was widely expected following a preseason competition that also included Brice Ramsey.
