Gary Harris Examines the Condition of Alabama Baseball

The 2019 College World Series got underway this weekend as Mississippi State, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Auburn represent the Southeastern Conference in Omaha.

For much of the decade, the SEC has held a noticeable presence in the CWS with South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Florida accounting for four national titles since 2010.

The Auburn Tigers punched their ticket to Omaha by going on the road and winning the  Atlanta Regional and defeating North Carolina in the super regional round in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

For Alabama, the program has fallen on hard times with no NCAA regional appearances since 2014 and no SEC Tournament appearances since 2016. A bigger point of concern for the program has been the instability in the coaching ranks and the challenges the program faces in recruiting.

Since 2016, the Crimson Tide has seen Mitch Gaspard, Greg Goff and Brad Bohannon assume the role as head coach. After two seasons in Tuscaloosa, Bohannon has amassed a 57-55 record but has struggled against SEC competition with just a 15-45 record in the conference.

Prior to the start of the CWS, veteran Tuscaloosa sportscaster Gary Harris examined the state of the Alabama baseball program on The Gary Harris Show.

In his monologue, Harris looks the heights the program achieved in the late 1990s, how the program slipped to where they are at today and the challenges Bohannon faces in rebuilding the program including the competition in the SEC and the 11.7 scholarship limitation for college baseball.
