West Alabama High School Football Preview: Week 4
After starting region play last week, teams like Hillcrest and Northside are looking to bolster their chances of hosting early round playoff games while Tuscaloosa County is in a must-win situation tonight if they want to reach the playoffs.
Huffman (1-1) vs. Tuscaloosa County (2-1) (Thursday)
Tuscaloosa County’s quest to remain undefeated and get a leg up in region play fell short last week against Thompson. This week, they face a critical region game on the road against Huffman. After scoring 94 points in their first two games, the Wildcats managed just a third quarter field goal in last week’s loss to Thompson. Huffman comes in with a 1-1 overall record including a 21-11 win over Oak Mountain to begin region play. This week’s contest is a must-win game as both teams have Hoover, Vestavia, Spain Park and Mountain Brook later remaining in their region schedules. Tonight’s meeting is the first regular season meeting between the two teams. The last time TCHS faced Huffman came in 2001 when Huffman edged the Wildcats 18-15 in the 3rd round of the Class 6A Playoffs. Kickoff is at 7 PM with airtime at 6:45 on Tide 102.9 and the radioPup app.
#4 Hillcrest (3-0) vs. Bessemer City (2-1)
Hillcrest returns home for a huge region game against Bessemer City. The Patriots have outscored their opponents 132-45 and have not trailed in three games this season. Bessemer City is a field goal shy of being undefeated as their only defeat came two weeks ago to Clay-Chalkville. The Purple Tigers blanked Selma 43-0 in their region opener. Hillcrest leads the all-time series 7-3 which dates back to 2000. The Patriots won a 23-20 overtime thriller over the Purple Tigers. Kickoff is at 7 PM with airtime on 95.3 the Bear and the radioPup app at 6:30.
Northside (2-0) vs. Bibb County (2-1)
The Northside Rams look to build on an impressive region win at Hale County as another region rival in Bibb County makes the trip to Samantha for another important region contest. Bibb County won their region opener last week against Greensboro and are searching for a road upset win. The running back tandem of D’Angelo Thompson and Erin Heard rushed for two touchdowns each in the Bibb County win. For Northside, John Robertson gained 121 yards rushing with three scores in the rout of Hale County. Northside and Bibb County split the previous two meetings with the Choctaws defeating the Rams 42-31 last season.
