One month remains until the end of the regular season. Teams across west Alabama will begin to make their final surge toward the playoffs as region play resumes Friday night.

#10 Mountain Brook (4-1) vs. Tuscaloosa County (2-4)

After a 2-0 start to the season, Tuscaloosa County is looking to reverse course thanks to a four-game losing streak. The Wildcats wrapped up their non-region schedule last week with a 34-7 loss at Hillcrest and are looking for their first region win of the season Friday night.

The Mountain Brook Spartans enjoyed an off-week last week. Two weeks ago, kicker Mason Dillard nailed a last second field goal to lift the Spartans to a 23-21 victory over Spain Park. The win over Spain Park marked the third time this season that Mountain Brook has won a game by a touchdown or less.

Mountain Brook leads the series 12-5 and has won seven of their last eight meetings with TCHS. Airtime Friday on Tide 102.9 and the radioPup app is at 6:45.

#2 Hillcrest (6-0) vs. Paul Bryant (3-3)

The Hillcrest Patriots continued their winning ways last week with a 34-7 hammering of Tuscaloosa County. Alabama running back commit Brian Robinson racked up 114 yards rushing with a rushing and receiving touchdown. Quarterback Cole Frederick completed 22-29 passes for 251 yards with a passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. Coming into this week, Hillcrest’s senior signal caller leads west Alabama area squads in completion percentage (.715), passing yards (1,283) and touchdown passes (14). Frederick also has not tossed an interception on the season.

Paul Bryant comes in on a two-game winning streak after demolishing Selma two weeks ago and escaping last week with a 23-19 win at Central. In last week’s win Gary Quarles Jr. returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and later added two rushing touchdowns.

Hillcrest has won 11 of the 12 all-time meetings and has not lost a home game to Paul Bryant. Airtime on 95.3 the Bear and the radioPup app is at 6:30.

Northside (2-3) vs. Sipsey Valley (1-5)

Since a 2-0 start, the Northside Rams are looking to end a three-game skid as the Sipsey Valley Bears make their way to Samantha for a critical region clash. Northside lost all three of their games by eight points or less including a 26-20 defeat to Bibb County, an 8-0 loss at West Blocton and a 27-24 setback at Brookwood last week. Through the first half of the season, Andrew Davidson and Luke Stripling have paced Northside’s offense with over 659 rushing yards and six touchdowns between the two players.

Sipsey Valley has a tough closing stretch with three of their final four games on the road. The Bears dropped both of their previous road contests early in the season to American Christian and Winfield. The major weakness for Sipsey Valley has been defense. Besides their shutout win over Holt, the Bears defense has allowed 40 points per game in their five losses.

Northside has claimed five of the six games in the series.
