The University of Alabama has landed local star Keith Holcombe out of Hillcrest High School. Rivals' Andrew Bone reported the commitment Tuesday afternoon.

Holcombe, a 6'4", 209 pound linebacker, had previously committed to Mississippi State on just two weeks ago. Bone reported that he on campus in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday, where eventually flipped his commitment.

The class of 2014 recruit is rated a three star by Rivals, a four star by 247Sports, and a four star by ESPN. As a junior, the linebacker racked up 116 tackles for the Patriots and help lead them to the 6A playoffs. Hillcrest head coach Scott Martin talked to AL.com about Holcombe earlier this summer:

He has all the intangibles," Martin told AL.com. "He's football smart, he has great range and a great arm span. What's making these colleges drool is that he's big enough size-wise to play in the box, but he can also line up and cover a wide receiver or a running back. He's a hybrid type of player, and that makes him unusual and special.

Holcombe is the 17th commitment for Alabama class of 2014, but he's only the fourth from the state of Alabama. However, he's the second Tuscaloosa-area standout, joining Tuscaloosa County running back Bo Scarbrough.
