The Pac-12 doesn't get much credit when it comes to defense. Traditionally, the West Coast teams are known for high-scoring, 'Pac-12 after dark' showdowns that provide plenty of entertainment for college football fans.

But Washington is different. The Huskies field a defense that night look more like a Big Ten or SEC model. They're 7th nationally in scoring defense (17.2 ppg)  and 11th in total defense (316.2 ypg).

"I would say on that, probably Florida," Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin said. "Florida's got so much speed on their defense, especially when they were healthy and had everybody. I would say Washington would most compare to Florida as far as SEC."

That's a lofty comparison considering the Gators have one of the most talented units in the country, and they held the Crimson Tide offense in check in this same city a few weeks ago. Ignore the 54-16 final score in the SEC Championship and look at the 372 total yards Alabama gained, which was third-lowest this season.

Kiffin shared some other observations of the Washington defense during his Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl press conference on Tuesday, including another comparison to a great defensive mind.

"They're coached extremely well and they don't make many mistakes," Kiffin said. They're not a - they don't take a lot of chances, kind of a bend don't break. I think there's a lot of comparison there. I know they spend a lot of time with Pete Carroll and that staff at Seattle. You can see a lot of comparisons in the style of defense they play."

Alabama, which leads the SEC in scoring, has scored fewer than 30 points just once this season while the Washington defense has yet to allow a team to score more than 28 on it. The matchup should make for a great College Football Playoff semifinal on Saturday.
