Levi Wallace Calls SEC Defensive Player of the Week Honor a ‘Blessing’

Arguably the best story through the first month of the season is the rise of Alabama cornerback Levi Wallace.

The former walk-on has taken over a starting spot in the Tide secondary and made the most of his opportunity. He made his first career interception against Florida State and followed that up with a two interception game against Ole Miss, one of which he returned for a touchdown. That effort against the Rebels earned Wallace the SEC Defensive Player of the Week honor. 

"It's great, truly a blessing," Wallace said. "You know, just trying to work hard. I really wasn't focused on that. I was just trying to help my teammates as much as possible."

Wallace leads the team with three interceptions through five games, and he's been a big part of the defense's success. Alabama now leads the nation in scoring defense after the 66-3 win over Ole Miss.

"We try to have a 24 hour rule. We're kind of looking at Texas A&M like you said. I like the identity that we're starting to become on defense and on offense. We just have to continue to build on that."

The Crimson Tide travels to College Station on Saturday for a night game against the Aggies.
