One month out from his third title fight in Alabama, WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder has established Birmingham as his city of choice for defending his belt. And as he keeps winning more bouts and gaining more international exposure, the opportunity to host a title fight in his hometown of Tuscaloosa seems less and less likely.

That topic has been a popular one on Tide 99.1 since the Bronze Bomber became champion in January of 2015, and the topic came up again during an appearance on The Game.

"I made Birmingham my home to have my fights because when we called them, they picked the phone up in 15 minutes and they embraced me with open arms," Wilder said.

"Birmingham was loyal to me when they didn't have to be. They made promises and they fulfilled it. And it's only getting bigger."

When Wilder and his camp reached out to officials in Tuscaloosa after he became champion nothing ever materialized.

"I got swept under the rug," Wilder said about trying to have his fights in Tuscaloosa. "So it's obvious why I do my shows and where I'm doing it. I'm a loyal person."

Wilder did say that he would still be open to discussing a fight here, but it's important for him to make the entire state proud.

"I'm not just representing my city," Wilder said. "I'm representing the state of Alabama, for one, so everywhere I go is my home. No matter where I am in the state of Alabama, that's Deontay Wilder's (home)."
