In a widely expected result, Oregon's Marcus Mariota has won the 2014 Heisman Trophy over Alabama's Amari Cooper and Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon.

Mariota's victory was by a record margin, gathering  points with 2534 first place votes. Gordon finished second with 1250 total points and Cooper third with 1023 points.

Oregon's standout junior signal caller finished the regular season with 38 passing touchdowns, 14 rushing touchdowns, 3783 passing yards, and just two interceptions. He is Oregon's second player in the past ten years to be invited to the Heisman ceremony is New York City, following running back LaMichael James in 2010. Mariota is the University of Oregon's first Heisman Trophy winner.

Runner-up Melvin Gordon had record numbers this season, rushing for 2336 yards and breaking the single game NCAA rushing record with 408 yards against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on November 15 (a record short-lived, however. Oklahoma's Samaje Perine rushed for 427 yards the next week against the Kansas Jayhawks).

Amari Cooper reset the Alabama receiving record book this season, catching 115 passes and putting up 1656 receiving yards, both Alabama single season records, and his 115 receptions are a single season Southeastern Conference record.

You can watch all three Heisman Trophy finalists on New Year's Day in their respective bowl games: winner Marcus Mariota's Oregon Ducks will play the Florida State Seminoles, the Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the other semifinal game on January 1, and Wisconsin will play the Auburn Tigers in the Outback Bowl.
