Martin Houston Examines Najee Harris’s Potential for 2019

Over the past two decades, the importance quarterback position has come to define how we view modern day offenses in college football.

Since 2000, all but three Heisman Trophy winners have been quarterbacks. Other than Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy in 2005 prior to vacating it due to NCAA penalties for USC, Alabama has fielded two Heisman Trophy running backs in Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry.

With Damien Harris and Josh Jacobs leaving the scene in Tuscaloosa for their futures in the National Football League, junior Najee Harris has an opportunity to fully display his talents in the Alabama backfield.

As a sophomore in 2018, Harris rushed for 783 yards on 117 carries with four touchdowns. However, the Antioch, California, native had 12 games with fewer than 10 carries in a game.

With Brian Robinson as the only other running back with significant experience on the roster, Harris is expected to get a heavier workload this season.
