Martin Houston Surveys Alabama’s Changes at Offensive Coordinator [Audio]

While Alabama fans celebrated the win over Washington and New Year’s Day, head coach Nick Saban rocked the college football by relieving Lane Kiffin of his duties and naming Steve Sarkisian as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator effective immediately.

With less than a week to go until the national title game showdown with Clemson, former Alabama fullback Martin Houston weighed in on the implications of Kiffin’s departure from the Crimson Tide coaching staff during his Tuesday morning monologue on The Morning Blitz.

During his three seasons as offensive coordinator, the Crimson Tide averaged 36.9 points per game in 2014, 35.1 points per game in 2015 and 39.4 points per game through 14 games this season.

However, a primary criticism concerning Lane Kiffin for Martin Houston was the lack of offensive production over in recent games.

“If you go back to the Chattanooga game, Alabama has looked bad. We’ve had three really bad offensive games in a row. We’re not getting better offensively.” Houston said.

Outside of the 54 points scored against Florida in the SEC Championship Game, Alabama scored 31 points against Chattanooga, 30 against Auburn and 24 against Washington.

The former Alabama fullback later addressed a variety of issues and solutions concerning the play of Jalen Hurts at quarterback and the offense as a whole.

With Kiffin out of the picture at Alabama, Houston examined Sarkisian’s potential impact as offensive coordinator and relayed an example from his playing days of how an assistant coach on Gene Stallings’ staff stepped in to call plays for an injured Mal Moore.
