Mike Davis Previews Conference Tournament Week

From 1979-1983, Mike Davis played the role of floor general as point guard for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Davis averaged over 10 points per game in his career in the crimson and white and helped lead the Crimson Tide to two NCAA Tournament appearances along with an SEC Tournament championship in 1982.

Since his playing days, the native of Fayette, Alabama, played professionally in Switzerland but has spent most of his adult life in coaching. Davis led Indiana to a national championship game appearance in 2006 and has been the head coach at UAB, Texas Southern.

This season, he is in his first campaign as the head coach at Detroit-Mercy. Prior to their first round Horizon League Tournament road game at Northern Kentucky, the former Alabama star discussed his team's upcoming game and coaching his son, Antoine Davis.

So far in his freshman season, Antoine Davis is tied for second in Division I with 125 made threes and averages 26 points per game. According to Mike Davis, a lot of work has gone into his son's prowess on the hardwood.

"I am proud of him, but I am more proud of the way he has worked for the last five years because he spent a lot of time in the gym. He shot 60,000 shots one time in 12 days, and the most shots he's ever shot in one day was 10,000. He's put in a lot of work working on his skills. He wasn't much of a basketball player until he started putting all that work in and it's really paid off for him." Mike Davis said.

Detroit-Mercy's head coach later talked about the quality of basketball in the Horizon League and his transition from Texas Southern to Detroit-Mercy.
