New Druid City Brewing Company Chalk Art, Nick Saban Meets David Bowie
When talking about iconic album covers, David Bowie's 'Aladdin Sane' should come near the top of most lists.
When talking about iconic figures in the City of Tuscaloosa, Alabama football head coach Nick Saban will top most lists as well.
I walked into the taproom on Monday night and was greeted with a lone chalk drawing of Coach Saban's face and was immediately intrigued. I thought, with political riffraff all the rave on my television set each night and the main topic of conversation everywhere I go, this was the start of some big "President Saban" drawing but was far from right.
Meet 'Aladdin Saban,' the newest addition in a long line of Crimson Tide themed chalk art to grace the walls at Druid City Brewing Company.
Bowie's 'Aladdin Sane' was released in 1973 and was the follow-up to his breakthrough, 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.' The original album cover featured Bowie with Orange hair and a bright orange and blue lightning bolt across his face. Obviously, it would be right inappropriate to paint and orange and blue streak across Saban's face, so leave it to Tuscaloosa artist Rich Marcks to make sure our champ shines in crimson and white.
The Druid City Brewing Company taproom is open daily at 607 14th Street in Tuscaloosa, in front of Oz Music and behind CitiTrends.
