Nick Saban Updates Eddie Jackson Injury as Bye Week Begins

The Alabama football team suffered a big loss on Saturday when senior safety and punt returner Eddie Jackson fractured his leg in the win over Texas A&M.

Head coach Nick Saban didn't hold his weekly press conference on Monday because of the team's bye week, but he made a brief appearance at an event in Birmingham and updated Jackson's status.

"He's obviously going to be out for the season," Saban said on Monday. "If there's anything that'll heal and you won't have problems with, it's a broken bone.

"We hate losing him. He's a great leader. He was really a great player for us in the secondary. He's a great person on our team. But it will create an opportunity for somebody else and hopefully they'll be able to take advantage of it."

Saban and his coaching staff will have two weeks to figure out which player or players the team will use to replace Jackson, but he's not completely sure who will slide into his spot just yet.

"I don't know exactly how we'll manage that. We want to talk to some of the players today. The good news is Eddie is going to be fine. This is not going to be something that's going to affect his career in any kind of way, shape or form."

The Crimson Tide will return to action next weekend against LSU. That game will be televised by CBS and kickoff at 7 PM.
