At least nine Alabama players won’t see the field for Saturday’s A-Day game, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban announced Thursday evening.

In his last news conference ahead of the annual intrasquad spring game played inside Bryant-Denny Stadium, Saban listed a number of players who would be unavailable for what is considered the final practice of the spring schedule.

Defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and A’Shawn Robinson, outside linebackers Ryan Anderson and Denzel Devall, running backs Bo Scarbrough and Buddy Pell, cornerback Cyrus Jones, wide receiver Cam Sims and offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy will all sit out of the A-Day game due to injuries. Safety Hootie Jones is also “questionable” with an ankle sprain sustained in last Saturday’s scrimmage.

“We’ve got probably more guys out for this game than we’ve had in the past, which creates an opportunity for some other players to play,” Saban said. “You’re always a little thin in the spring without having the entire freshman class with you.”

Both Sims and Scarbrough suffered torn ACLs during a week’s span across late March and early April, and Devall (foot) and Jones (hip) were ruled out for the entire spring at the start of spring practice.

Robinson sprained his ankle and knee on April 6 and has practiced with a black non-contact jersey ever since. Saban said last Wednesday Robinson was “day-to-day.”

“A’Shawn Robinson probably could play if we were having a game, but we’re going to be real cautious with that one,” Saban said.

Allen, Anderson, Pell and Kennedy’s injury issues are unknown, though none are expected to be serious as all have been practicing without serious limitations.
