With a very mediocre college football line up this weekend, Arizona State traveling to Stanford is possibly the biggest of game of the weekend.

The Sun Devils are coming off the most controversial game of last weekend as they hosted the Wisconsin Badgers. Arizona State prevailed over the Badgers in the final seconds, thanks to poor clock management by the Wisconsin offense and an officiating mistake by the refs

Stanford will return home after a cross-country trip last weekend when it faced Army in West Point, NY.  The Cardinal defeated the Black Knights 34-20 while compiling 402 yards of total offense.  Senior running back Tyler Gaffney lead the charge for Stanford with 132 yards on the ground.

There are two very interesting match-ups to look out for in this game. First, the battle of the quarterbacks. Stanford's sophomore quarterback Kevin Hogan has never lost a game as a starter. His record is 7-0, including a victory in the Rose Bowl last season. In two starts this season Hogan has completed 28 of the 45 passes he has thrown for 395 yards and five touchdowns.

Hogan's counterpart for the Sun Devils will be junior Taylor Kelly. Kelly comes into this matchup after having a big game against Wisconsin last weekend. The Eagle, Idaho, native did not throw any touchdowns in that Wisconsin game but did complete 29 of 51 passes for 351 yards.

The thing that makes the quarterback match-up interesting is that both guys are good game managers with the ability to run the ball.  ASU runs a spread offense and uses different quarterback reads and options allowing Kelly to use his legs. The Cardinal run a pro-style offense but have designed runs for Hogan because he can run the ball effectively. Both quarterbacks have the weapons around them to lead their offenses down the field.

The other matchup to look for in this game is the battle in the trenches. There is a very good chance that this game could be decided by the big boys up front. Stanford is known for having a big and physical offensive line and this year is no different. The Cardinal offensive line is anchored by senior captain David Yankey and highly touted sophomore left tackle Andrus Peat. Stanford is averaging 5.3 yards per carry and the ground so far this season and it starts with the big guys upfront.

The Cardinal offensive line will have its hands full Saturday when it it goes up against one of the best defensive tackles in the country in Will Sutton. Sutton is accompanied upfront by sophomore Jaxon Hood and junior Carl Bradford, who have lead the way for hard hitting defense who ranks 20th in the country in points against.

Stanford likes to run the ball right behind its big boys up front, and ASU faced a Wisconsin team last week that runs a similar offense. At times during that game the Sun Devils had a hard time stopping the run.

One matchup to look for in the trenches is Stanford's Peat and Arizona State's Hood. These two have matched up against each other before in their Arizona prep careers. They met in 2011 when Peat was the highest ranked player in the state.

This game will be very physical so look for Stanford to try an establish a running game early. And for Arizona State, it will try to spread things out and put a lot of points on the board quickly.

You will be able to find this game on Fox at 7pm ET.
