Last week I went 2-1 on my high school picks I'm still befuddled by Spain Park beating Tuscaloosa County, and admittedly picking Hillcrest over Central and ACA over Dallas County didn't require the ability to solve world hunger or world peace. We could use help on both those topics, but that's another column.

Here are this week's prep picks:

West Blocton at ACA

Both teams are in the thick of the playoff hunt in Class 4A, Region 3. The host Patriots are 5-1 overall in 3-1 in the region, while theTigers are 4-3, 2-2. "The Bloc" needs the win worse than ACA playoff wise, but won't likely get it. American Christian wins this one, 34-14. Jalen Prince will be on hand for Tide 100.9 for full coverage.

Central at Northridge

The Flying Falcons are 4-3, 2-2  in Class 6A, Region 4, tied for the final playoff spot with Bessemer City. Northridge 1-5, 1-3  and the Jags postseason hopes are rather dim considering they are likely to not have the services of star junior quarterback Rowdy Christensen. Central will have it's quarterback David McNeil and that should be the difference as the Falcons snap a five-game losing streak to the Jags, 31-13.

Hoover at Tuscaloosa County

Which County High team shows up? The one that hung on late to win at Oak Mountain or the one that frankly dropped the ball against Spain Park? In Class 7A, Region 3 the Cats come in 2-2 in region play, 4-2 overall. The struggling Bucs are 2-2 as well and 2-5 overall. In what most consider the toughest region in Alabama, Thompson, Vestavia Hills and Hewitt-Trussville all are ahead of the Cats and Bucs in the playoff hunt, so this game in Northport is basically a playoff elimination game. Only one team will remain realistically standing. My pick is County Hight to take a 24-20 win over Hoover and stay alive.
