Former Alabama running back Trent Richardson has a lot of competition to earn carries for Oakland this fall, but the early reviews are positive for the former third overall pick.

Raiders offensive line coach Mike Tice was asked about the team's offense while talking to SiriusXM NFL Radio and offered up some thoughts on the team's running back situation. His comments included a mention of Richardson, who is trying to catch on with his third NFL team in four years.

"I thought the young man out of Alabama [Trent Richardson] came on," Tice said. "He lost some weight, his quickness came around.”

If Tice's observations are accurate, it would be a positive sign for the 24-year-old. Weight issues were reportedly one of the reasons the Indianapolis Colts parted ways with the running back.

Richardson is trying to earn a spot on a roster that includes fellow ball-carriers Latavius Murray, Roy Helu, Michael Dyer, George Atkinson, and Taiwan Jones.
