Here's a new way to have fun in the sun on Lake Tuscaloosa, rent a paddle board, canoe or kayak! Starting Friday and running all summer, Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority will offer the rentals at the Phelps Center/Rock Quarry Boat Landing.

They way it works participants must first register/sign in at the Phelps Center, located just off Rice Mine Road, past New Watermelon Road in Tuscaloosa. A parent/guardian is required to sign a waiver for participants age 18 and under. Participants age 13 and under must have a parent/guardian accompany them during the activity.

The cost is not bad at all, paddle boards, canoes and kayaks each run $20 per two hours and $30 per six hours.  Even better yet, the rentals are included (at no cost) with current PARA Center and Outdoor membership.

Rentals are available Monday through Saturday from Noon until 6pm. Personal floatation devices and a brief safety instruction are included with rentals.

Reservations are available online at www.tcpara.org. Group lessons are available by request. For more info, call the Phelps Center at 205-562-3230.
