Auburn will announce the hiring of Bruce Pearl to replace Tony Barbee as head coach of its basketball program.

CBSSports.com first reported the hire, stating that Auburn AD Jay Jacobs met with Pearl in Knoxville on Monday and that he has agreed to accept the position.

Pearl is still serving a show-cause penalty handed down from the NCAA after recruiting violations in 2011, but the school can state its case for why those should be alleviated before August.

During his six years in Knoxville, Pearl made Tennessee one of the nation's best programs. After taking over a team that finished 14-17 the prior season, Pearl produced a 22-8 record in his first year and earned a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament. He never missed the Big Dance during his time in Tennessee, reaching the Sweet Sixteen twice and the Elite Eight in 2010.
