Report: Second Alabama Basketball Guard Requests Transfer
Another Alabama men's basketball player will not stick around for the Avery Johnson era in Tuscaloosa.
According to Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News, guard Devin Mitchell has been granted a release from Alabama after just one year on campus. This comes just four days after Ricky Tarrant also decided to transfer out of the Crimson Tide program.
Mitchell, a 6'4" guard out of Georgia, played in 14 games his freshman year for Anthony Grant, recording one start. He was never able to settle into a consistent role on the team, which likely contributed to a year in which he shot just 13% from the field and 12% from 3-pt range.
After the two transfers and two graduations, Avery Johnson is left with just two true guards on the roster for 2015: senior Retin Obasohan and sophomore Justin Coleman. The first-year head coach has been hitting the recruiting trail hard since arriving in Tuscaloosa a week ago, which is important because he now has another scholarship spot that needs to be filled.
