One of the best pass rushers ever to play the game of football will be featured in an upcoming documentary. The SEC Network announced on Tuesday that it would debut five new SEC Storied films in September that focus solely on SEC football.

One of the films, In Search of Derrick Thomas, will observe the life of former Alabama and Kansas City Chiefs football player Derrick Thomas, who, in 2000, died from injuries that he sustained in a car crash. It is scheduled to air on the SEC Network on Tuesday, September 29.

The network released this summary for the film:

Life was never easy for Derrick Thomas. At the age of 5, his father, an Air Force pilot, was lost in Vietnam during a flying mission. As an adolescent growing up in a rough Miami neighborhood, Thomas ran afoul of the law and found himself in front of a judge who would give him a second chance. He turned his life around, became a star on the gridiron and attracted the attention of the University of Alabama, where he established himself as arguably the greatest pass rusher in college football history. He went on to an outstanding career as a linebacker with the Kansas City Chiefs, and in 1993, he was named the NFL's Man of the Year for his charitable contributions to the community. But at the age of 33, he was paralyzed in a car accident and died shortly thereafter, leaving behind a towering legacy that would put him in both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. He also had a son he never knew, Matt Naylor, who narrates this moving testament of discovery.

Derrick Thomas was an elite pass rusher at both the collegiate and professional level. In 1988, he broke the unofficial NCAA record for sacks in a season with 27. He was a unanimous All-American that same year and was also awarded the Butkus Award.

In the NFL, Thomas was a nine time Pro Bowler for the Kansas City Chiefs. He owns the NFL record for sacks in a game with seven and the Chiefs' record for sacks in a career with 126.5. In 2009, the Chiefs retired Thomas' number 58, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Thomas recently headlined the 2014 College Football Hall of Fame class. Click here to check out the exclusive interview Tide 99.1 had with Derrick's oldest son, Derrion, regarding his father's induction into the Hall of Fame.
