Sepp Blatter Steps Down as FIFA President

In the wake of the indictment of 14 FIFA officials last week, FIFA president Sepp Blatter has resigned from his role, just four days after being elected to the same position for the fifth consecutive term.

Earlier on Tuesday, FIFA held a press conference and Blatter announced that he would not continue as the president. He has often been assumed to be behind much of the corruption surrounding soccer's governing body, and it seems as though the recent arrests and indictments were condemning enough to force his resignation.

FIFA has announced that they will not elect another president until December at the earliest, and could even wait until March 2016 to vote.

With the recent happenings involving these top FIFA officials, speculation is now arising as to whether or not the World Cup will be held in both Russia and Qatar in 2018 and 2022, respectively. If the racketeering and money laundering were involved in selecting Russia and Qatar for the World Cup, it only follows that the new president will most likely decide if the world's greatest tournament will remain in those countries.
