Seven is not just a number.

Seven is a symbol of the Southeastern Conference's dominance in College Football, a reminder to the rest of the country that the conference, namely Alabama,Auburn, LSU, and Florida have secured the BCS National Championship for the past 7 seasons.

Seven is a word that makes blood boil in the fans of the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12-conferences determined to establish themselves as preeminent forces in the nation's second most popular game (behind the NFL of course). It is a reminder that while on the cusp, they have fallen short.

While the rest of the country plays its unique style, the Southeast has a unique brand of football. Former Missouri Tigers Defensive Tackle Sheldon Richardson in fact labeled it "boring" saying the SEC played "old man football." Perhaps he meant to say grown man football.

Grown, as in the interior lines of the conference power houses are built like ocean liners- big and powerful, gliding through opponents like it is what they were supposed to do. Grown as in the linebackers are built like defensive ends and defensive backs with reputations for being pound-for-pound some of the toughest players on the field.

Russ Mitchell of College Football News and Scout.com joined The Game as said Monday night's victory by Alabama showed the country the SEC has two things opposing conferences just don't have.

While Notre Dame had their share of big defensive lineman, and boasted one of the most decorated college football players in history in Manti Te'o -a formula that should have aided the Irish against the Tide- Mitchell said Monday night's game came down to one thing.

The Game airs weeknights from 6-8pm on Tuscaloosa’s Sports Authority 99.1 WDGM.
