Talladega Superspeedway Nominated and Now Needs Your Vote for ‘Best NASCAR Track’

A panel of NASCAR experts have selected their 20 favorite venues for the USA TODAY 10 Best Readers’ Choice 'Best NASCAR Track' contest. These experts know how to pick a track, as Talladega Superspeedway made the elite list of nominees.

Now, it's in the hands of race fans everywhere to vote for the biggest and baddest track on the planet – Talladega Superspeedway. Voting is open until Monday, June 22, at 11pm and voting once per day (per person) is allowed. Fans can click here to cast their vote for Talladega Superspeedway.

Known for competitive three, four and sometimes five wide pack racing that leaves fans sitting on the edge of their seats through the entirety of a race, its unbelievably steep 33-degree banking and unique start/finish line location close to turn one, Talladega Superspeedway hosts all three of NASCAR’s top series – Sprint Cup, XFINITY and Camping World Truck, as well as the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.

A staple in racing since 1969, the 2.66-mile juggernaut boasts the fastest 500-mile race in history (188.354 mph) and holds the record for the most lead changes (88), which has happened twice.

With the number 88 in mind, Talladega’s 2015 GEICO 500 brought a whole new level of excitement as fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, took the checkered flag for the first time at TSS in 11 years. It made for Earnhardt Jr.’s sixth career NASCAR Sprint Cup victory at Talladega – tying him with Jeff Gordon for the most among active drivers.
