The University of Alabama football team practiced for 90 minutes on Friday afternoon in shells on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields with the first scrimmage of the spring scheduled for Saturday.

The Crimson Tide’s scrimmage on Saturday is slated for 1 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium. A group of nine newcomers will get their first look under game-like situations while numerous returners battle for an expanded role for Alabama in 2013.

“What we are looking for on Saturday at this point and time is guys that will compete,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said earlier this week. “They need to be able to play their position with the kind of effort, mental and physical toughness and discipline that goes along with being able to execute and being responsible to do a job.”

Alabama’s scrimmage on Saturday is closed to the public.

Alabama’s 2013 A-Day Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. (CDT) inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.
