Top 10 Current Bama Players in the NFL
NFL Network is currently naming the top 100 current players as picked by the players themselves. So far CJ Mosley, Eddie Lacy and Marcell Dareus have been voted in, with the top 50 still to come.
No doubt that since Nick Saban's arrival in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide have seen an incredible number of players drafted into the league. Record numbers even. So why not take the time to name the best representatives of the Tide legacy in today's NFL.
So here is my personal top 10 former Alabama players in the NFL.
- 1
Julio Jones
Atlanta Falcons WRThe Atlanta Falcons gave up a lot to draft Julio Jones in the top 10 of the 2011 Draft. Their reward? How about two Pro-Bowl seasons in four years. Jones has been one of the most consistent downfield threats in the league since his debut. If he can stay healthy, he could cement his place as one of the best receivers in the game today.
- 2
Marcell Dareus
Buffalo Bills DTWhile Dareus has had some trouble off the field lately, on the field he has been a rock solid contributor to one of the best defensive lines in the league. His two Pro-Bowl appearances validate his position on this list. Hopefully, he can clean up the off field issues and be the franchise player the Bills were hoping for when they drafted him 3rd overall in 2011.
- 3
Eddie Lacy
Green Bay Packers RBEddie Lacy was overshadowed at Alabama by who came before and after him. Then, during the 2012 SEC Championship Game and 2013 BCS National Championship Game, Lacy became unstoppable on the ground, and he's largely carried that momentum with him to the Green Bay Packers. His ground and pound style added another element to the already high-octane Packer offense. Lacy has two 1,000 yard seasons already and is on the cusp of being one of the top backs in the NFL.
- 4
DeMeco Ryans
Philadelphia Eagles LBDeMeco Ryans was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2006, and has since played a leadership role for two franchises over a nine seasons. He is closing in on 1,000 career tackles. Despite being traded by the Houston Texans in 2012, he has found new success with the Philadelphia Eagles. Injuries have slowed him down recently, but Ryans looks to be a contributor has his career is nearing its end.
- 5
Evan Mathis
Philadelphia Eagles OGEvan Mathis played for four different coaches while at the University of Alabama. His career was scarred with uncertainty with the Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins. However, since joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011, he has flourished. The 2-time Pro-Bowl guard is playing his best football ten years into his professional career.
- 6
DJ Fluker
San Diego Chargers OTA mountain of a man, DJ Fluker was destined to play offensive tackle in the NFL. When he fell to them at the 11th overall pick in 2013, the San Diego Chargers wasted no time making Fluker a staple of their offensive line. He struggles in pass-blocking at times, but is one of the best run-blockers in the league.
- 7
CJ Mosley
Baltimore Ravens LBAfter just one season in the NFL, Mosley has cemented himself as one the league's best linebackers. The Ravens hope he can be the heir to a position once held by the legendary Ray Lewis. So far, Mosley has met and surpassed expectations.
- 8
Roman Harper
Carolina Panthers SRoman Harper is a two-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion with the New Orleans Saints. After being released following his 8th season, Harper has found new life for his career with the Carolina Panthers.
- 9
Mark Ingram
New Orleans Saints RBAlabama's only Heisman winner didn't have the best start to his career, but a Pro Bowl season last year has led to a new contract with the Saints. Ingram has had to share the load for most of his time in New Orleans, but now it seems the team is ready to use him as their lead back.
- 10
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Green Bay Packers SHa Ha Clinton-Dix was a soid starter for the Green Bay Packers in his first professional season, but he really turned it up in the playoffs. Clinton-Dix had two interceptions against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. He has a bright future with a talented team.
